Yonamine
Born in Angola in 1975, Yonamine is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans painting, drawing, graffiti, photography, video, and performance. Having lived in Angola, Zaire (R.D.C.), Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Zimbabwe, he now works between Athens, Luanda, Lisbon, and Berlin.
• Artistic Practice: Yonamine’s work merges personal memory with collective history, using diverse media and found materials to explore themes of identity, post-colonialism, and political narrative.
• Visual Language: His large-scale installations and murals combine newspapers, serigraphs, collages, and everyday objects, layering cultural icons, film imagery, and political figures into dynamic visual statements.
• Conceptual Focus: Through this vibrant mix of references, Yonamine constructs a distinctive visual vocabulary — a dialogue between African history, global pop culture, and his own lived experience.
