Yonamine

Born in Angola in 1975, Yonamine has lived across several countries, including Angola, Zaire (DRC), Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Zimbabwe. He is currently based in Greece, working between Athens, Luanda, Lisbon, and Berlin.

His wide-ranging artistic practice encompasses painting, drawing, graffiti, photography, video, and other media such as tattooing and body art. Through multimedia installations, his work functions both as a personal archive and as a critical reflection on African history and political realities.

At present, his practice is largely expressed through complex installations, large-scale murals, photography, and video. These works incorporate a vast array of materials and objects, including newspapers, screen prints, drawings, collages, and found traces. Images drawn from popular culture, American cinema, mass media figures, and political personalities from Africa and beyond intersect throughout his compositions. From this layered convergence, the artist constructs a distinctive visual language shaped by both shared references and his own critical stance.
